Kumbakonam K Swaminathan is the illustrious disciple of Vidwan Sri Singaram Pillai and Natchiyar koil Sri V Raghu in Kumbakonam. He inherited the legacy of rhythm from the age of 10 and started performing from a young age, accompanying leading artistes in and around his home town of Kumbakonam. He also accompanied kanjira for Chennai leading Vidwans who are coming to perform there.
 
In Chennai, he is currently undergoing advanced training from the reputed Mridangam Vidwan Sri Poongulam S. Subramanian and has been performing actively in Chennai music circuit from 2001 onwards.

He is A  GRADE ARTIST artist in All India Radio. He got DIRECT B high grade in AIR @ 2007.
