Raghul Ravichandran

Sri. R. Raghul is a disciple of Violin Maestro Sangeetha Kalanidhi Shri. M. Chandrasekaran. With a natural aptitude for classical music, he commenced his music training under Smt. Vasantha Kannan at the young age of 6 at Calcutta. On changing his base to Chennai, he came to the unique School of Violin which blends the vocal & Nadaswaram style. Initially he was shaped and chiseled by Shri. P. Govindarajan, one of the disciples of the great Violin Maestro Shri. M. Chandrasekaran. Shri. P. Govindarajan shaped Raghul to imbibe the unique style of violin playing directly from the Maestro. He has been learning from the Maestro for the past twelve years. His music training and learning span over 20 years. Apart from learning vocal and violin from Shri. M. Chandrasekaran (who stresses on a strong vocal base for instrumental music), he has also had the privilege of learning vocal music from Sangitha Bhooshanam Late Sri. O.V. Subramaniam. He is a professional musician. He is an A Grade Artiste of All India Radio, Chennaiand a post graduate in Indian Classical Music from the University of Madras. Academically, he is a post graduate in Maths and has passed the examination Samartha conducted by the Samskrta Pracharini Sabha of Chittoor. He is currently pursuing research in music and Sanskrit from the University of Madras. He is a JRF awardee having cleared the NET examination. He has participated in music competitions from the age of 10 and won numerous prizes, almost all of which are first prizes. He is also awarded the Bharat Rathna Dr. M S Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music by the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai. He has been giving performances since 2004 in all prestigious sabhas and organizations in various cities in India. He was also given an opportunity to participate in the Akashvani Sangeeth Sammelan in the year 2009 at young age of 22. He has had the privilege of accompanying many legends and stalwarts of music like his legendary guru Shri. M. Chandrasekaran, apart from being a regular accompanist for many up and coming musicians. He has many reviews in "The Hindu" on many occassions since 2005 and till last Music Season.
