Patri Satish Kumar (born 3 August 1970; Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh) is an Indian Carnatic musician and player of the mridangam. Satish Kumar was initiated into learning mridangam at a young age by his mother Smt. Padmavathy, who was a violinist. He performed his first concert at the age of 7. Satish Kumar was trained by three mridangam artists and teachers from Andhra Pradesh Sree Ramachandramurthy, V.A. Swami and Vankayala Narasimham. Having rich concert experience of over 40 years, patri has travelled widely all over the world. His speciality is the fine balance between the treble and bass heads. A fine performer, composer and teacher patri had reinvented YATHI PRAANA TALAS & some thalas like misra misrachapu and so on. Some of his solos in SHANKHA THAALAM, SENAVATHI THAALAM and sankeerna chapu has been appreciated widely. He has conceived a new concept in solo GAJAANA.. GATHI , JAATHI and NADAI concept. He has performed in some of the great halls like kennedy centre, lincoln hall, london royal albert hall, music academy chennai, sydney opera house, paul getty hall , thetre de laville in paris and many more. He has performed with many legends in world music in some prestigious international festivals. The unique style of patri got him innumerable number of desciples all over the world. His unique wok in designing mridangams which has both traditional & contemporary look has been accepted widely all over the world. His unique solos & finishings.. be it MOHRAS OR KORUVAIS... patri has a distinct style which inspired younger generation artists in the field of percussion. He conducts a unique drum festival featuring legends and upcoming percussionists giving them exclusive solos in his festival PDF ( PATRI DRUM FESTIVAL). Patri continues his journey as a performer as he feels MUSIC IS HIS LIFE.
