Ghatam vidwan AS Shankar, who hails from a family of musicians; is also a Mridangam artiste; and is a disciple of Veteran Ghatam Vidwan Sri T V Vasan. He is now contributing his service as a Lecturer in Ghatam, at S.V.College of Music and Dance, Tirupathi. Being an ‘A’ grade artiste at All India Radio,chennai is contributing to the field of Carnatic
Music for the last 25 years. He made his concerts with all veteran musicians such as, Madurai T N Sheshagopalan, T V Shankaranarayanan, Dr.N Ramani, Sri P S Narayanaswamy, Prof. T N Krishnan, Dr. M Balamuralikrishna,

• Laya Njana Jyothi in 1998.
• Outstanding performance award conferred by South Indian Fine Arts, California, 12th March, 2000.
• Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Asthana Vidwan Award conferred by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam for the year 2006.
• He was also honoured by Laya Lavanya, of Mridangam maestro Padma Vibhushan Umayalpuram K Sivaraman,in 2013.
Special Events :
• Has participated in the 108 mridanga yagnya of Laya Madhura conducted by Kalaimamani Tiruvarur Bhakthavastlam at Sri Ganapathi Sachidhanandha Swami Aashram, Mysore, 2011.
• Supported his Guru in the Lec-Dem, Talavadhyolsav, organized by the Department of Mridangam, Sri Swathi Tirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of Golden Jubliee Celebrations, Oct 2009.
Concert Tours :
• He is a globe trotter and made many performances at Srilanka, United States of America, United Kingdom, Dubai, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Scotland, London, France, Muscat.
• He also represented India for ICCR in Belgium and Scotland, in 1999.
• Accompanied the Indo German Fusion Music Troupe, ‘Ahimsa’ from 1998, till 2005.

Has given several audio recordings for HMV, Sangeetha, Enrico, Amudham etc., to Bombay Jayshree, Sudha Raghunathan, Sikkil Mala Chandrasekar, Raji Gopalakrishnan, Dr. M Balamuralikrishna, Unnikrishnan, Nithyashree, Shashank and for Ahimsa fusion music.
