His father, Vaikom G Vasudevan Namboothiri is a renowned Carnatic musician in Kerala. His father was his first guru. Vaikom Jayachandran was initiated into the world of Carnatic music since childhood. Empowered by strong foundation, Jayachandran joined RLV College of music, Thripunithura to get a taste of formal education in the subject. He graduated with Gana Praveena (Post Diploma) from the college. He is also a Post Graduate in Gana Bhooshanam. Gaining Central Government Scholarship in classical Music Education is his another major achievement. His entry into the artistic realm at such a tender age, gave him the sacred privilege of being the disciple of great masters. He studied Carnatic Music under the eminent gurus, Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri. Tanjore M Thiagarajan (popularly known as TMT), Mavelikkara P Subramaniyam, besides other teachers of RLV College of music, where he was a student for more than 6 years.

Today, Vaikom Jayachandran is one among the most popular new generation carnatic singers. He won his credibility over a decade through numerous outstanding performances across the country.
