C T Indra taught at the University of Madras (1976-2008) and served as Professor and Head of the English Department from 1995 to 2007. She was also Chair of the School of English and Foreign Languages for some time. She was a Fulbright post-doctoral Fellow at Harvard University (1980-81) and American Research Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1990).
