Sowmya Subramanian was introduced to Carnatic music at an early age by her mother, Dr.Revathy Subramanian (a Ph.D in Music). Since the age of 15, she has been under the tutelage of renowned Guru, Sangeeta Choodamani, (Late) Smt. Suguna Purushothaman. 
After moving to the Bay Area in 2008, Sowmya has been regularly performing at various chamber concerts and premier organizations in the area, including SR Fine Arts, SV Lotus, Sangati Center, Bay Area Margazhi Utsavam, Sangeetha Dhwani, Swaralahari (TV),  Sri Rajarajeswari Temple (SRRT), Vaidica Vidya Ganapati Cultural Center (VVGC), Livermore temple and Concord Temple. Sowmya also performs at the esteemed December Music festival in Chennai. Sowmya has a mellifluous voice that brings out the bhavam in her music.
She also teaches vocal music and is a dedicated and passionate teacher, her music school--Swara Raaga has many young and aspiring kids and adults learning the nuances of the from her. Sowmya believes in strict adherence to the padaathram of the songs as taught by her Gurus must be flawlessly retained.
